About Us

Courtney Brown: From Struggle to Leadership

Courtney Brown is just a kid from Akron, Ohio  raised in a system that too often overlooks the potential of young Black boys. Growing up, he faced significant trauma, instability, and time in foster care, experiences that shaped his understanding of adversity and resilience from a young age. Like many in his community, Courtney became entangled in the juvenile justice system, and that involvement carried into adulthood.

But his story didn’t end there.

With the help of powerful mentors, counseling, a Trauma informed care  programs, re-entry court assistance, and real support systems, Courtney began to rebuild his life. He turned pain into purpose, and survival into leadership.

Today, he is a Behavior Specialist and the holder of three master’s degrees — in School Counseling, Coaching and Sports Science, and Educational Leadership/Principalship. His professional path and personal journey have uniquely positioned him to serve youth and families who face similar barriers.

As the founder of Winners and Leaders, Courtney is on a mission to break generational cycles and change the narrative in the Black community. His goal is to open a charter school that goes beyond academics — offering trauma-informed care, life skills training, mental health support, and violence prevention strategies that meet young people where they are.

Courtney believes deeply in second chances, healing, and opportunity. Through his work, he is determined to create a world where kids who grow up like he did are seen, supported, and empowered to lead.

Winners and Leaders exists to help save lives in underprivileged communities by providing access to mental health support, education, life skills training, sports, and wellness resources.

We believe that every young person no matter their zip code, background, or struggle  deserves the tools and opportunities to heal, grow, and lead.

Through trauma informed programs, real mentorship, and culturally rooted support systems, we empower youth and families to break generational cycles and build powerful futures.

We envision a future where inner-city youth are equipped with the mindset, tools, and support to rise above adversity and lead lives of purpose, health, and impact.

Our long-term vision includes:

  • Opening a community-based charter school in Akron rooted in healing, leadership, and opportunity.
  • Providing year-round resources that prevent violence, incarceration, and school dropouts.
  • Building a network of mentors, coaches, therapists, and educators who reflect and uplift the communities we serve.
  • Cultivating Winners and Leaders in every neighborhood we touch.
